As I sit here and it is 95 degrees outside, it is hard for me to believe that schools are starting in just a few weeks. My son starts back 3 weeks from tomorrow (August 21). His friend across the street attends a different school and she starts in less than 2 weeks. WOW!
One of the best parts of going back to school for most kids is buying new stuff - clothing, book bags, and school supplies. All the discount stores are chock full of school supplies: pencils, paper, glue, scissors, markers, pens, etc., etc. While my son is blessed to be able to buy all the supplies he needs, there are literally millions of kids across the U.S. who don’t have the money to buy their supplies.
YOU can help! Virtually every city has a group(s) that are collecting donations of supplies to give to needy kids. Here in Columbia, SC a local TV station - WACH - is featuring on their website a bank that is collecting school supplies. Read the article and you’ll get some ideas about what type of supplies are needed. You can find a donation site in your community, I am sure.
Another idea, if you want to help in another way is to buy a gift certificate from Amazon.com and take it by your area school’s library. They will be thrilled I am sure.
Let’s help our school kids and schools be the best they can be!
