During the Christmas holidays, all of my immediate family came to our house to visit for a few days. We had a great time being together, and everyone seemed relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company. Each person sort of settled into their own comfortable niche over the few days and I hope they enjoyed themselves. My mom and dad seemed to enjoy just visiting with their children and grandchildren and they did a good bit of shopping. My brother-in-law fell right into one of his favorite pastimes -watching movies. Others joined him at different times. Several people played cards a lot. And there was PLENTY of food. We all fell into the unhealthy pastime of snacking way too quickly and frequently! But one of the things that interested me the most was the knitting (or maybe it was crotcheting - I never know the difference) that several people were involved in. My sister-in-law and my niece were both involved in current projects - one making an afghan and the other making a scarf. And on Christmas Day, my wife’s cousin was here, and she too is very involved in knitting/crocheting (whichever!). It seems like such a tedious thing to do to me, but those who do it really seem to just relax while they are creating their projects. They can work and talk or watch TV all at the same time!
I frequent bookstores and book websites a LOT and have noticed the book The Friday Night Knitting Club on bestsellers displays for some time. Too be honest, I would see the book and was very aware that it had been on prominent displays for a long time, but I never picked up a copy to even browse. It just didn’t interest me.
This morning I was reading bookreporter.com, one of my favorite book websites, and it turned out that they had a feature interview in the current edition with Kate Jacobs, the author of The Friday Night Knitting Club. She now has a second fiction book on knitting, titled Knit Two, which is now in stores. The interview was very interesting to read. I encourage you to read it. She is apparently an excellent writer and has more books in her mind for the future. With all the knitting that went on in my house over the holidays, and having read the interesting interview with Kate Jacobs, I may just have to pick up the first book and try it. It’s not really my favorite genre, but it’s popularity makes you think that the book must have a great storyline. And, just in case I don’t ever get around to reading Kate’s books, I would certainly be interested in hearing about them from those of you who have read these bestsellers.
